Two ADUs with the same square footage can feel completely different depending on how you handle privacy and entry.
Design moves that protect privacy
- Angle windows away from the main home and neighbors where possible
- Use landscaping as soft screening
- Create a defined entry path so the ADU feels intentional
- Consider a small patio zone for the ADU so the outdoor space is usable
Access planning
- Think about how construction crews and materials will reach the build area
- Protect existing landscaping you want to keep
- Plan where dumpsters and staging will go so the project does not overwhelm the property
These details do not always add major cost, but they add major quality.
